Published in 1917, the Converse All Star is now one of the most iconic shoes around. It was created in collaboration with the basketball player Charles "Chuck" Taylor, from where he got his famous alias "Chuck". Among various other subcultures, Converse shoes were soon discovered by skateboarders. Long before special skate shoes existed, especially the Converse "Chucks" called Converse All-Star models were popular in the scene. Already in the early years of skateboarding in the 1960s, many skaters swore by Converse All-Star. Even as skateboarding developed, the "Chucks" remained loyal companions for many skateboarders - among them Marty McFly in the Hollywood classic "Back to the Future". In the 1980s, Converse launched its first advertising campaigns with a focus on skateboarding. The first skate team was formed in the 1990s. At that time, Converse also created shoe models specially designed for skating, such as Kenny Anderson's first Converse Pro shoe. However, the project came to nothing and some time passed until in 2009 the skateboard series was relaunched under the label Converse CONS. This time they decided to put more emphasis on their own classics. Converse is now part of Nike SB and has access to their extensive technologies. Accordingly, Converse CONS skate shoes feature well-known Nike SB innovations like the Lunarlon sole, the Ortholite footbed or Nike Air Zoom elements in well-known CONS silhouettes. The Converse CONS Skate Team reads a bit like a "Who is who" of the current sakteboard scene: Louie Lopez, Milton Martinez, Bobby de Keyzer, Eli Reed, Alexis Sablone, Sage Elsesser, Jake Johnson, Aaron Herrington, Brian Delatorre and many more are currently on the road for the legendary shoe brand.
